Pricing Overview (Short Version)

The total price for an illustration consists of two main components:

  1. Illustration Price = Work Fee + Usage Rights Fee

  • Work Fee: Based on my hourly rate (€105 gross/hour)
  • Usage Rights Fee: Based on how the illustration will be used (only applies to commercial commissions)
  1. The Usage Rights Fee

This is calculated using a standardized tool from the Illustratoren Organisation e.V. (German Illustrators’ Organization). It adjusts the total price based on the specific usage rights the client selects.

  • The more usage rights requested, the higher the total price.
  • You can upgrade your usage rights at any time.
  • I offer package discounts for multiple illustrations.
  • On request, I can provide multiple estimates for different usage rights scenarios.

1. Work Fee

Based on your briefing, I estimate how many hours the illustration will take. At this stage, we clarify:

  • Style
  • Complexity
  • Number of illustrations
  • Other relevant details

Estimated hours × €105/hour (gross)

  1. Usage Rights Fee (Commercial Use Only)

For commercial projects, a usage rights fee is added. This fee gives the client the right to use the illustration in a specific way.

Usage Rights – Parameters & Explanation

When commissioning an illustration for commercial use, the Usage Rights Fee is calculated based on the following parameters:

1. Exclusivity

  • Exclusive: Only you may use the illustration for the agreed purpose. I will not license or reuse it elsewhere. As of 2025, I have started to only hand out exclusive rights. 

2. Region

  • Where the illustration will be used:
    Local (e.g., city), National, or Worldwide online use is always considered worldwide.

3. Duration

  • How long the rights apply:
    Typically 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, or unlimited.

4. Media

  • Where the illustration will appear, such as:
    Print, Online (web, social media, digital ads), Apps, TV, Out-of-home advertising, etc.

5. Extras

  • Additional or extended usage, such as:
    • Merchandise
    • Third-party licensing
    • Resale rights
    • NFTs, etc.
